The NHRI participated in the International Conference on "Food Justice from a Human Rights Perspective" in Qatar.

Led by H.E. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson of the NHRI, the delegation took part in the International Conference on "Food Justice from a Human Rights Perspective" in the State of Qatar. Over two days, more than 300 governmental and non-governmental organizations with international and regional expertise participated in the event, alongside human rights advocates, special rapporteurs, heads of treaty bodies and regional human rights mechanisms, national human rights institutions, as well as academic and media representatives and research centers. The conference aimed to provide a platform for dialogue to discuss, analyze, and exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices, as well as to review legislation, policies, plans, and programs related to the right to food in order to develop a systematic response to the global food crisis from a human rights perspective. It also sought to propose mechanisms and tools to encourage governments and international corporations to adopt a human rights-based approach to ensure the right to food, guaranteeing safe, nutritious, and adequate food for all throughout the year.

H.E. Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson and head of the participating delegation, emphasized the importance of the institution's participation to understand the role of national human rights institutions in implementing the right to food and food justice according to a human rights-based approach. This includes their role in reviewing the implementation of legislation, policies, plans, and programs aimed at enhancing the enjoyment of the right to food and learning from best practices in dealing with the impacts of natural and human-made disasters on the right to food, drawing on experiences from COVID-19, international conflicts, and their effects on the right to food.

The NHRI delegation included H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, Head of the Promotion of Human Rights Culture Committee; H.E. Ameirah Al Seraidi, Head of the Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights Committee,  and Ms. Alya Almaazmi - Section Head of Committee Affairs Department .
