The National Human Rights Institution holds a Round Table on the Right for Development with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The National Human Rights Institution held a round table on the right to development, presented by H.E. Mr. Saad AlFarargi, Special Rapporteur on the right to development of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) during his academic visit taking place at the Institution's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The round table , held on Tuesday January 31, 2023 addressed the role of national human rights organisations in elevating tolerance, equality and justice as pillars of enhancement. Alongside highlighting individual participation in economic, social, cultural, and political development, coinciding with contributing to and benefiting from the development.

This round table is part of the framework of the cooperation and partnership between the OHCHR and the National Human Rights Institution after the organisational retreat held by the Institution and the OHCHR, in addition to the workshop with the Universal Periodic Review Branch of the OHCHR, as part of genuine endeavors to develop mechanisms for human rights work in national human rights organisations compliant with Paris Principles.


Furthermore, It is worth noting that H.E. Mr. Saad AlFarargi was appointed Special Rapporteur on the right to development in 2017, and he has served as an ambassador and permanent observer of the League of Arab States to the UN in Geneva, as well as specialised agencies and other international organisations in Switzerland. He also published articles on economic development, international law, peace, security, disarmament and global trade.
