The Board of Trustees of the National Human Rights Institution holds its Fifth Meeting with the Participation Government Representatives

The Board of Trustees of the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), chaired by Maqsoud Kruse, concluded its fifth periodic meeting, which was held over two days on 14-15 September 2022 in Abu Dhabi.

The agenda of the first day included a review of the operational plans of the six permanent committees. The Board of Trustees discussed the draft annual budget, the recruitment plan submitted by the General Secretariat, as well as the NHRI’s role in the preparatory process  for the UAE’s fourth national report on the Universal Periodic Review.

The second day included the participation of five government representatives, which are Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Ministry of Community Development. The Board of Trustees also organized a brainstorming session focused on NHRI’s strategic plan for 2023.

The “National Human Rights Institution” was established in 2021 as an independent institution and enjoys financial and administrative independence based on the Paris principles. NHRI works in compliance with the Paris Principles as it sets the basis of regulating the work of national human rights institutions approved by the United Nations. The NHRI aims to protect and promote human rights in the United Arab Emirates by taking into account the UAE Constitution, mandates and other relevant international treaties.
