NHRI participates in 19th regular session of OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission

JEDDAH, 25th May, 2022 (WAM) -- In its efforts to promote and protect human rights practices through fruitful and constructive cooperation and to build bridges of communication with all countries and organisations, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) participated in the 19th regular session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), taking place from 22 to 26 May 2022 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

NHRI delegation was headed by Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the Institution, along with Dr. Saeed Al-Ghfeli, the Secretary-General; Ameirah Al Seraidi, Chairperson of the Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights Committee; and Amro Al Qahtani, the Chairperson’s Office Director.

The delegation participated in a special discussion session and thematic debate on "The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in the OIC Countries".

Experts from relevant international organisations and specialised institutions of the OIC participated in the discussion, as well as representatives of member states that have the right to vote, additionally representatives of "A" status countries such as Indonesia, Morocco, and Qatar, and observer countries of the organisation and their national human rights institutions.

A detailed outcome document will be issued at the end of the debate.
