National Human Rights Institution delegation participates as observer at CEDAW session

ABU DHABI, 27th June, 2022 (WAM) -- A delegation from the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) attended the session held to review the fourth report on the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) .

The delegation attended in an observer capacity at the sessions held on 21-22 June at the UN headquarters in Geneva.

The delegation comprised Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Institution; as well as Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson of NHRI; Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chairperson of the Civil and Political Rights Committee; Maryam Al Ahmadi, Chairperson of the International Relations and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee; Ameirah Al Seraidi, Chairperson of the Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights Committee; Fatma Al Bedwawi, Chairperson of the Complaints, Monitoring and Field Visits Committee; Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, Chairperson of the Committee for the Promotion of Human Rights Culture; Dr. Zayed Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee; Klaithem Al Matrooshi, Board of Trustees member; Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Noman, Board of Trustees member; Shahreyar Nawabi, Board of Trustees member; in addition to Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, NHRI Secretary-General; Amro Al Qahtani, Chairperson's office manager; and Fajer Al Haidan, acting head of international affairs.

Commenting on the Institution's participation as an observer, Maqsoud Kruse reiterated NHRI's role as an independent institution in observing the improvement and development of actions aiming to achieve the highest response rates toward international commitments and priorities in the field of human rights and public freedoms by enhancing the rights and humanitarian approach and improving basic rights and freedoms, respecting the rule of law, and ensuring justice, equality and non-discrimination for everyone.
